April 3, 1965 - Kinne born in Rome Hospital, Rome, NY.


April 3, 1970 - Kinne given Pteranadon model by parents. Starts down the road to Science that has guided his path ever since.


September 11, 1978 - Kinne given a paper Chess/Checker set at a Syracuse Burger King. Learns game on the drive home and starts a gaming path that changes his life.


October 9, 1980 - While meeting his then best friend, Lotar Nordman, at Rome Free Academy for the bus ride home, Nordman introduces Kinne to the game Dungeons & Dragons.


January, 1981 - Kinne introduces the Dungeons & Dragons game to two of his teachers at Rome Catholic High, Susan and Tim Messick. The campaign lasts nearly two years. These people, along with fellow campaigner Tom Gazitano, prove to be among the most important relationships in Kinne's life.

Summer, 1981 - Tim Messick teaches Kinne BASIC on a TRS-80 Model 1 computer. Due to this event Kinne decides to purse computers as a career.


Fall, 1983 - Kinne enters SUNY Oswego majoring in Computer Science and eventually minoring in Astronomy.

September, 1983 - Kinne meets Allison Horne and starts gaming with a group of people eventually known as WEFPuB (What Escaped From Pandora's Box): a group that would go beyond AD&D gaming and become Kinne's second family. Included in this pivotal group is Mark VanOrder, the first openly Gay person Kinne ever met.


September, 1985 - Kinne starts working at the Instructional Computing Center of SUNY Oswego under the excellent direction of Assistant Director Ed Beadel and Systems Programmer Paul Taylor.


May 16, 1987 - Kinne graduates Cum Laude from SUNY Oswego.


February 10, 1988 - Kinne starts work as the User Services Consultant at SUNY Morrisville under Randy Baker.

July 29, 1988 - Kinne licensed as Amateur Radio Station N2IKR.


August 1, 1989 - In a dramatic moment while watching "Torch Song Trilogy" Kinne comes out of the closet.


August 11, 1991 - Kinne and Buddha Buck begin a relationship that continues for ten years.


Spring, 1992 - Kinne meets the then Chief of Communications for USS Avenger, LtCmdr Mark H. Anbinder, over UseNet. This singular event eventually changes the history of the City of Ithaca.


October 11, 1993 - USS Accord commissioned as a starship. Kinne promoted to Lieutenant Commander and placed in charge of the Sciences Division.


March 21, 1994 - With the encouragement of Capt Anbinder, Kinne publishes his first article, "The FatNewt: The MessagePad Scribbles On!" in Adam and Tonya Engst's electronic magazine TidBITS and starts life as a freelance writer.


November, 1996 - Kinne's first glossy magazine you-can-buy-it-at-Borders article is published in Linux Journal.


January 8, 1997 - The Ithaca Common Council appoints Kinne the city's first Computer Systems and Network Administrator.

February 10, 1997 - Kinne takes office and starts guiding his new home's computer systems into the next century..

May, 1997 - Kinne elected Vice President of Ithaca's MUGWUMP (Macintosh Users Group of Writers and Programmers).

October, 1997 - Kinne's second glossy magazine you-can-buy-it-at-Borders article is published in "The Writer's Journal" and details how he sold his first article across the Internet.

December 8, 1997 - The Systems Administrator Civil Service Test results come in. Grade: 95%. Position on the List: 1st.

December 11, 1997 - Kinne elected President of Ithaca's MUGWUMP (Macintosh Users Group of Writer's and Programmers).


April 15, 1998 - Amateur Radio Station N2IKR reconstructed and raised in Ithaca, NY.

August 1, 1998 - Amateur Radio Station N2IKR made an ARRL Official Bulletin Station for the Western NY Section.

September 30, 1998 - N2IKR made Assistant Net Manager for the New York Public Operations Net.

October 14, 1998 - Military Affiliate Radio Systems Station NNN0BFA raised in Ithaca, NY.

December 8, 1998 - Kinne assumes the Presidency of the Tompkins County Amateur Radio Club and resigns as President of MUGWUMP.


February 13, 1999 - Kinne resigns as Executive Officer of USS Accord and re-takes his old post as Chief Science Officer.

May 17, 1999 - Doc Kinne reluctantly resigns as Ithaca Municipal Systems Administrator after two and a quarter years.

July 12, 1999 - Doc Kinne accepts position as Lecturer for the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Ithaca College.

September 20, 1999 - Kinne accepts a position as Software Support Technician at the CBORD Group.

November 13, 1999 - Kinne promoted to Colonel in the Starfleet Marine Corps.

December 8, 1999 - Kinne made Commander, 5th Battalion, 7th Brigade, Starfleet Marine Corps. He does not run again in the office of President of the Tompkins County Amateur Radio Club due to his teaching schedule.


February 29, 2000 - Kinne awarded the Starfleet Marine Corps Sword of Valor as 7th Brigade Leader of the Year.

May 5, 2000 - Kinne made Adjutant for the 7th Brigade, Starfleet Marine Corps.

May 23, 2000 - Kinne awarded the Starfleet Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal for three years of active service.

June 6, 2000 - Kinne made a Member-at-Large of the Astronomical League.

July 4, 2000 - Kinne starts graduate studies in Astronomy at the Swinburne University of Technology's Centre of Astrophysics and Supercomputing. He resigns from the Adjunct Faculty of Ithaca College in order to pursue this degree.

July 28, 2000 - Kinne elected Secretary and Regional Representative for the North East Region of the Astronomical League.

December 2, 2000 - Kinne promoted to the rank of Brigadier in the Starfleet Marine Corps and is also awarded the Starfleet Cross by Fleet Admiral Mike D. Smith


January 5, 2001 - KINNE eklernas Esperanton.

July 28, 2001 - Kinne made member of the Association of Lunar and Planetary Observers.

August 11, 2001 - Kinne awarded the Starfleet Marine Corps Pentares Award for developing the Carl Sagan Memorial Planetwalk web site in conjunction with his graduate studies at the Swinburne University of Technology's Centre of Astrophysics and Supercomputing.

October 5, 2001 - Kinne attends the Internacia Esperanta Semajnfino in Ludlow, VT and has his first successful experiences listening and speaking Esperanto.

October 22, 2001 - After ten years Doc Kinne and Buddha Buck split up and go their seperate ways.


February 21, 2002 - Kinne joins LiveJournal and starts blogging.

August 14th, 2002 - Vicki Tomlinson leaves FMS Tech Support starting a downward spiral from which the team never quite fully recovers from.

November 4, 2002 - Kinne meets Ben SAMPLES over IM.

November 7, 2002 - Kinne resigns his Starfleet Marine commission in order to officially launch the Shuttle Espero. The shuttle, unfortunately, never quite gets off the ground.


March 11, 2003 - Kinne is swept up by British football.

April 30, 2004 - Rich Gallagher, FMS Manager and one of the best managers ever to work with Kinne, announces his resignation, continuing the departments downward spiral.

June 27, 2003 - Kinne travels to Toronto to meet Ben for the first time and experience Gay Pride on the very street where Queer as Folk is filmed. It is one of the greatest weekends of his life.

July 3-6, 2003 - Kinne attends his first Landa Kongreso at MIT and walks the Infinite Corridor for the first time in over 10 years.

July 6, 2003 - Ben surprises Kinne by asking if he'd like to be boyfriends. Kinne accepts.

August 29, 2003 - On the way back from a client site in AZ (constituting the farthest West Kinne has ever been to date) Kinne flies to Knoxville to visit with Ben for the first time since starting the formal relationship.

September 1, 2003 - 0330CST, Ben breaks up with Kinne. The relationship lasts 56 days. He returns home to find Paddock gravely ill.

October 9, 2003 - Kinne graduates with a Masters of Science in Astronomy from Swinburne University of Technology's Centre of Astrophysics and Supercomputing.

November 17, 2003 - Castor & Pollux, future cats of Kinne, are born.

November 20, 2003 - Paddock, aged 17 years, dies.

December 6, 2003 - Thom Slater and Kinne meet over the Net.

December 9, 2003 - Kinne travels to Philadelphia to see his long-time favorite group, Simon & Garfunkle, in concert for the first time. It is Kinne's first concert ever.


February 4, 2004 - Graymalken, aged 9 years, passes away. For the first time in 17 years Kinne is now alone.

February 7, 2004 - Thom and Kinne become boyfriends.

February 12, 2004 - Castor and Pollux come to Stelazilo to live.

February 14, 2004 - Susan Cleary Messick, Kinne's chosen mother, passes away, aged 55 years and 5 days.

February 26, 2004 - Kinne made a member of the American Association of Variable Star Observers.

March 29th, 2004 - Thom breaks up with Kinne. The relationship lasts 44 days.

May 9th, 2004 - Kinne attends the First Unitarian Society of Ithaca for the first time.

June 8th, 2004 - Kinne participates in the international observation and data collection of the 2004 Venus Transit

October 26, 2004 - Kinne and Scotty Matthews meet over the Net.


January 22, 2005 - Kinne and Matthews break up. The relationship lasts 69 days. Scotty is simply too alergic to the cats.

January 29, 2005 - Kinne applies for his first science grant, a NASA outreach travel grant to attend the 3rd High Energy Astrophysics Workshop in NM. He gets the grant.

February 3, 2005 - Kinne starts interviewing for a position with the Astronomy Department of Yale University. Simultaneously, he starts his first house search in Ithaca.

February 6, 2005 - Kinne formally joins the First Unitarian Society of Ithaca

March 21, 2005 - After several phone interviews and one on-campus interview, Kinne is not selected for the Yale SysAdmin position. He finds out during his attendence at the 3rd High Energy Astrophysics Workshop in NM. He delivers his first poster paper there.

March 24, 2005 - Kinne visits the VLA

April 29, 2005 - Kinne attends the first ever Unitarian-Universalist Buddhist Conference.

May 13, 2005 - Kinne moves out of Stelazilo and into JC & Jenna Cohen's apartment as he continues to look for a house.

May 29, 2005 - Kinne meets Arc Reilly at Autumn Leaves and starts a relationship of sorts. It turns into the most atypical relationship that Kinne ever engages in. Arc is poly, something that Kinne has never been able to deal with, 26, and unemployed and basically homeless.

June 26, 2005 - Kinne attends his first Quaker meeting with Arc.

November 23, 2005 - Kinne buys his first house: 130 E. South St. in Groton, NY - Darrowby House.


April 21, 2006 - Kinne participates in his first 3-day Zen sesshin.

June 4, 2006 - The Cohens move into the upstairs of Darrowby House.

November 24, 2006 - Geneological research shows that the Kinne family came to New England in the very early 1600s from Norfolk, England.


Janury 13, 2007 - Kinne attends his first Go tournament - the 2nd Annual Greg Lefler Memorial Tournament - on the Rochester RIT campus. He wins 1 out of 3 games.

May 25, 2007 - Kinne and Riley teach two pigeons how to fly.

June 29, 2007 - Kinne attends the GPL 3.0 release in Boston and meets Richard Stallman.

August 4, 2007 - Kinne accepts a phased in position at the American Association of Variable Star Observers in Cambridge, MA. He starts working for them - while keeping his old job at CBORD - at 1/4 time.

September 30, 2007 - Arc Riley has decided that he doesn't want to move to Boston. He moves to Manchester, NH and he and Kinne formally break up.

October 17, 2007 - Kinne takes his first CCD image with the Bradford Robotic Telescope in the Canary Islands.

November 26, 2007 - Kinne joins the Remote Astronomical Society gaining access to their robotic telescope network and takes his first scientific CCD images of SS Cyg.

December 11, 2007 - Kinne is accepted into the American Asstronomical Association.


January 11, 2008 - Kinne leaves CBORD to pursue astronomy full time.

July 4, 2008 - Kinne secures a new address in Somerville, MA: 17 Rush St.
